SMART Sponsors Interactive Kiosks at Society for Information Display Exhibition

Addition of SMART’s interactive overlays to kiosks puts exhibition information at attendees’ fingertips

Calgary, AB – May 23, 2004 – SMART Technologies Inc. announces its sponsorship of the Society for Information Display (SID) 2004 International Symposium, Seminar, and Exposition, a forum for leaders and innovators in the display industry held May 23–28 in Seattle, Washington. SMART’s interactive overlays are mounted on flat-panel screens and will add award-winning touch capability to SID’s official exhibition kiosks, converting them into interactive kiosks that provide users with quick access to exhibitor booth information.

Prior to SMART’s involvement in the event, organizers posted exhibit information on stationary boards and in printed programs. This year, the exhibition will feature SMART’s interactive overlays, which give attendees instant, up-to-date access to exhibitor information. They simply touch the interactive overlay’s 50? (127-cm) touch-sensitive screen, select an icon on the interactive floor plan and locate exhibitors easily by searching for company name, product category or booth number. Once a booth is selected, its location is highlighted on the floor plan and all corresponding details automatically pop up.

“Customized interactive kiosks for public venues represent a growing product category,” says David Martin, SMART chairman and co-CEO. “SMART is a leader in this emerging market, and the use of our interactive overlays in kiosks at SID’s exhibition demonstrates how touch capability can increase the utility of digital signage.”

“SID attendees are leaders and innovators in the information display industry, so SMART’s interactive overlays are a natural and welcome addition to our kiosks,” says Phil Heyman, SID spokesperson. “An annual symposium since 1962, SID appreciates SMART’s help in keeping the show at the forefront of display technologies.”

About SMART’s interactive overlays
Ideal for large, self-service kiosks, SMART’s interactive overlays are designed for use in trade shows, retail stores, hotels, airports, museums, building directories and other public and semi-public indoor venues. Computers connected to the interactive overlays can be programmed to include a variety of information, from maps to product and service descriptions. Customers can touch an icon on the large interactive screen to find a location on a map, locate products in a store or make purchases directly. When customers are not using the display, it can work simply as digital signage.

SMART’s interactive overlays fasten easily and securely to a large LCD or plasma display and feature award-winning DViT™ (Digital Vision Touch) technology, which uses state-of-the-art digital cameras embedded in the frame to detect contact across the entire screen. With no wires or sensors between the user and the display screen, the image quality is clear, bright and crisp. SMART offers interactive overlays for many popular models of flat-panel displays, in screen sizes ranging from 37 to 63" (94–160 cm).
